| Short biography | Born 1961 in Münster, journeyman’s certificate, Dipl.-Ing./MA (Mechanical Engineering, History, Philosophy and Sociology in Hanover, Washington and Munich, 1993 PhD with a dissertation on ‘Interaction of University and Industry in the United States and Germany 1870 – 1930’ (LMU Munich, summa cum laude). 1988-1992 Research Associate at the ‘Central Institute for History of Technology’ at TU Munich (with Prof. Ulrich Wengenroth), 1993-95 Research Associate at the Research Institute of ‘Deutsches Museum Munich’ (director: Prof. Helmuth Trischler), 1996-2013 Scientific Director of the ‘Center for Technology and Society’ TU Berlin, 1997 Visiting Professor at the TU Wien, 1999 founding member of the ‘nexus Institute for Cooperation Management and Interdisciplinary Research’, 2008-14 President of the International Association for the History of Transport, Traffic and Mobility (www.t2m.org), 2012 Visiting Fellow at the Indian Institute for Advanced Study. 2013 Full professor for Work, Technology and Participation at TU Berlin, since 2018 editor-in-chief of Innovation.
