Short biography | I am a Swedish historian with a Danish twist, and my professional turf is Nordic cultural and political history from the 1700s onwards. I did my PhD at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, 1998–2002, on concepts of masculinity in Swedish marriage ideology from 1760 to the 1830s. Since then, I have done a lot of teaching and produced a number of books and articles – in Swedish, English and Danish – on masculinity, early modern patriotism, 20th century Danishness, Swedish macro-history, surveillance and the history of communications. My current research interests revolve around issues of surveillance, censorship and security in relation to modern Communications.
