Presenting the new core group of the Early Career Scholar Network

The Early Career Scholars Network can announce some new activities and changes that have occurred during 2021. A new core-group has formed and taken over from the original initiators of the network.
The Tensions of Europe Early Career Scholars’ Group is a self-organizing network gathering PhD-students, post-doctoral scholars and non-tenured academics within Tensions of Europe. The group formed in Chios in October 2014 during the Tensions of Europe workshop “Quo Vadis?”, and contributed to discussing the future directions of the network.
Our meetings typically have an agenda based on the wishes and needs of the participants. We organize meetings around contributions in any form, not restricted to traditional paper presentations, but including brainstorming around research ideas, commenting on project proposals, draft articles and course syllabi, holding workshops on academic skills and strategies, etc. Everyone is welcome to join!
The early career scholars group has a google group mailing list where we share cfps, job opportunities, search for panelists for sessions, etc. If you would like to be added to the list, please email Jakub Mazanec jakmazanec[at]gmail.com

The Tensions of Europe Early Career Scholars Committee is looking forward to seeing you at the summer school “Transformations in/of the History of Technology,” organized in connection to the 11th Tensions of Europe Conference “Transformations. Fundamental Change and Technology.” The summer school will take place at European University Viadrina, Frankfurt (Oder), September 16-19, 2024. It will be followed by the Tensions of Europe Conference (September 19-21, 2024). The Call for Participants has been published!

The Tensions of Europe Early Career Scholars’ Group is a self-organizing network gathering PhD-students, post-doctoral scholars and non-tenured academics within Tensions of Europe. The group formed in Chios in October 2014 during the Tensions of Europe workshop “Quo Vadis?”, and contributed to discussing the future directions of the network.
Since then, the group has developed into a support network with a dual aim: 1) to actively engage with debates within Tensions of Europe; 2) to facilitate and encourage community-building among early career scholars across borders. We provide an informal, open space for discussing research ideas and career development. Our main tool for doing so are regular meetings that take place both face-to-face and online, enabling participation for those who do not have the financial and/or practical opportunity to travel to meetings.

Activities
The group has organised 3 summer schools (Stockholm 2015, Athens 2017, Luxembourg 2019), 2 semi-virtual workshops (Paris 2015 and Porto 2016) and 2 fully virtual meetings (January 2016 and January 2017). Members from the group also continuously organise conference panels within our fields.
