History them at IST conference in Gothenburg June 2017

21 November 2016

The next International Sustainability Transitions conference  (IST) will be held in Gothenburg 18-21 June 2017. This time the conference will contain a history track with the explicit goal to connect historians of technology and/or environment with transitions researchers. Socio-technical transitions are by definition historical processes and historical case studies have been instrumental in the development of analytical transition frameworks. Yet the relationship between transition research and history as academic disciplines is not straightforward and entail methodological tensions. What can transitions scholars learn from historical research methods, and in which ways can transition research be useful for historians? The track will be chaired Johan Schot (University of Sussex, SPRU) and Anna Åberg (Chalmers University of Technology).

The deadline for abstracts and session proposals is December 10, 2016. For further details and updates check out the web site See in particular track nr 8 "Sustainability transitions and history". I especially encourage you to send in so called "dialouge sessions", which you can organize as you please with comments and discussions.
